Frequently Asked Questions

The first month of my practice, I asked how the body “worked.” How does it heal, and how did it get sick or out of balance to begin with? I’ve been lucky enough to work with people in the last almost three decades continuing to explore, research, and discover those answers. I am interested in working with people who want to do the work to heal themselves, so we can continue to answer those questions together.

Please read through these questions to clarify the work that we are doing.

What does an appointment look like?
Each person is a little different, depending on what we are working on, but the first session, whether in person or remote, looks a little like this:
I will have you fill out some paperwork to get your medical and healing history. We will go over your history, what your goal(s) is/are, what you’ve tried, and what’s worked and not worked. Then, we will talk about options and treatment plans, get you some immediate resources, and start some healing work if there is time in the first session.

How long will it take to “get better?”
That’s a complicated question. First, it depends on what your goals are and how you want to feel. Second, it took a long time to get to where you’re at, and it may take a bit to get back to the “new normal,” that is, the “new you.” Third, it’s not entirely up to us. That is between your system, mind, path, Higher Power, and science.

If you want out of crisis, that can happen rather quickly- if you want medium healing, that takes a little longer, and deeper healing takes…well, as long and as far as you want it to. I have some peeps that come until the fire is out, for a few sessions; I have others that come a bit longer; and I have some who come for years because it’s part of their healing journey. You get to decide your path, I am just here to accompany you- and…I get to witness it, which is my gift.

All that said, it is important to me that clients feel and see changes in the first session, and every session thereafter. I want both of us to feel like we are constantly making headway and helping you heal. That is why I am generally taking on a limited amount of clients, because my peeps actually heal. :)

What should I expect my role to be in my healing?
We are a partnership. You are in ultimate control and the best physician for your body and mind. I am happy to be on your healing team and help empower you to make the best choices for your healing path. Please visit About this Work for more info on our roles in this healing.

How often should I come for appointments?
For mental health therapy, it is recommended to start weekly if you can, to establish rapport and gain momentum for the work that we are going to be doing. For bodywork, that would be up to you. For both, it is your time, energy, money, and goals. I suggest you hit it harder in the beginning and then start spacing it out so you can see and experience the healing changes you are looking for. I do have limited space, so we can make a treatment plan in the first session to get you where you want to be and make sure I keep space available for you on my schedule.

Do you work with people who are medicated?
Absolutely. If there are mental conditions that you are being treated for and/or are taking high levels of medication, certain modalities may not be recommended or used.

Can I get off my medication?
This work does not get involved with your medication or adjusting medications. That would be between you and your doctor.

Will you work with my child?
I work with children, but only with the support and willingness of the parents to shift and look at how the family dynamic can support and help the child heal. I do not believe in “fixing” children because children are not broken. If you are paying for an adult child’s treatment, I will not be able to discuss their treatment plan or sessions with you.

Do you take insurance?
For mental health therapy, I take BCBS of NE, Molina Medicaid, and Aetna at this time. I will be taking most commercial insurances in the next month. I do have a sliding scale available for select cases in need.

For bodywork, I have had some in-person clients get a prescription from their doctor for craniosacral therapy and/or massage therapy for headaches- they pay and then can get reimbursed. (I don’t bill insurance for this.) Check with your doc and insurance company- we are happy to provide receipts or superbills.
